Discover the Art of Face Painting
THE FIRST official stop in Olga’s Aussie workshop tour was the Gold Coast.
I couldn’t wait to show Olga the beach. Being winter, however, it wasn’t exactly swimming weather – and because of our busy schedule, we didn’t have time to laze about.
Olga was keen to meet the native wildlife and so we went to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. My family came up for the day and we were able to cross ‘cuddle a koala’ off the list, along with tickle a crocodile, pat a kangaroo, as well as have hundreds of noisy rainbow lorikeets invade our personal space. There’s nothing quite like it and I think the experience left a lasting impression on Olga – and also provided the inspiration for her belly painting demos here in Australia.
The next day, Monday July 22, was the first face paint class in Australia – for Olga and for the Face Painting School. We were both excited – and very nervous – for Day One of the Gold Coast workshops. While the venue was a disappointment, (and certainly wasn’t private as was described to me when I booked it), Olga demonstrated her amazing designs and answered questions like a champion.
On Day Two on the Gold Coast we switched venues and, without all the background noise, the second day ran smoothly. It was amazing to watch Olga demonstrate her techniques. Unfortunately the quality of the photos I took on the Gold Coast wasn’t great – but the best are in the gallery below.
A BIG THANK YOU to students Colleen, Helen, Lisa Marie, Cassandra, Marion, Amber, Haley, Kayleen, Rob, Cathleen, Jayne, Donna, and Melanie for joining us at the Gold Coast in July 2013.
Next we head to my home town of Sydney. Check back in soon to see the photos.
